Quick facts
A-7 is free and scenic; AP-7 is toll and often calmer.
Why it's great
- ✅ Short drive, big city vibe
- ✅ History, culture, beach in one place
- ✅ Easy parking options
When to go
Leave after rush hour (≈09:00) and enjoy a relaxed day. Weekdays are quieter at museums and car parks.
The Drive — Scenic & Simple
From Marbella, join the A-7 east towards Málaga. Stay on the coastal highway most of the way. If you prefer a calmer ride, choose the AP-7 toll road for part of the journey.
You'll pass Fuengirola, Benalmádena, and Torremolinos — nice spots for a coffee break or quick photo stop.
What to See in Málaga
- ✅ Alcazaba & Roman Theatre — Moorish fortress with city views, right above the Roman ruins.
- ✅ Málaga Cathedral — "La Manquita" (the one-armed lady), a landmark close to the port.
- ✅ Picasso Museum — Málaga is Picasso's birthplace; the museum is full of early works.
- ✅ Muelle Uno & Port — modern harbour area with restaurants, shops and sea breeze.
- ✅ La Malagueta Beach — grab grilled sardines (espetos) at a beach bar.
Parking in Málaga (Easy Options)
Park once, then explore on foot. Good central choices:
- Muelle Uno Car Park — perfect for the port and Old Town.
- Plaza de la Marina — steps from the Cathedral and Calle Larios.
- El Corte Inglés Car Park — underground, safe, walkable to the centre.
- Blue-line street zones (Zona Azul) — paid daytimes, often free evenings/Sundays.
You can pay street parking with EasyPark on your phone (check the zone code on the sign).
